Boohermuda Triangle Ride

A quick break-down of the ride - more video/pix/stories to follow I'm sure. A true Mag 5: Booher, Dano, Mantz, Potter, & Special Ed, completed the "Triangle" around Lake Isabella.
  • Day 1 - 70 miles of single track in the Piutes. Per Mag 5 requirement there was some fear of not making it back, but we were able to bum some gas off of fellow dirt bikers camped at Landers Campground. Followed by dinner and beers at Kern River Brewery. Can you say "Just Outstanding IPA"?
  • Day 2 - Rincon to Sherman Pass. We were thwarted by too many downed trees and too much snow to make it all the way up to Sherman Pass. An out-n-back run on the Rincon trail was halted by the heavy flow of Dirwood Creek. Still we completed 40 miles of trail riding adventure. Followed by steaks and cocktails at Ewing's On The River.
  • Day 3 - Breckenridge. Up Squirrel Meadow Trail and Down Mill Creek Trail. 25 miles. Followed by a soak in the hot springs.

MX History

Hakan Carlqvist was so far out front at the Citadel (GP of Namur) that he pulled over and drank a beer with the fans. The Citadel track literally wrapped in and out of a historic castle in Belgium. The track was lined with cafes and bars. Hence the beer stop. Probably my favorite motocross story of all time (besides Ed winning the Catalina GP on a $200 bike). Sadly the race and the track are no more.

Here's the cafe where Hakan pulled over for his celebration beer.

Castillo Addendum

Blue skies, green grass, black dirt.
As Ed said, track was in burrito supreme condition. It was obvious Gustavo did a lot of work. "Yimmy" was in Mexico with his new girlfriend. Cheers.
Lots of sand added to key sections.
Travis hitting the new freestyle jump. I told him "I'm out", then he said, "you gotta do it while you're still young," so I did. Didn't quite lay it as flat as T.Marks.
Other comments: Ed was flyin, Tyler coming to terms with the 450 clearing the big table-step-down, Potter pressured/passed me per usual, consensus on San Jose-Aaron is faster on his 450 than his Service Honda CR500, Tigert maybe the fastest guy on the track when not picking himself up off the ground, Rich "this Husky doesn't work in the sand" Schauwecker, I had moments of feeling like my old self interspersed with serious episodes of whiskey throttle ... Yee haw! Mag 5 well represented, but missed the spice of Dougo, Dax, Booher, et al.
